Baseball great Rickey Henderson made his Major League debut with the Oakland A’s on June 24, 1979. Henderson won a Gold Glove Award in 1981 and was named league MVP in 1990. Over the course of his 25-year career, he won two World Series titles: in 1989 with the Oakland A’s, and in 1993 with the Toronto Blue Jays. In 1991, Henderson broke the all-time stolen base record. His record of 1406 stolen bases still stands. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009, and he was included into The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2020. Rickey Henderson died on Dec. 20, at the age of 65.
